The Ministry of Railways has approved a new train service between Agartala and Guwahati (Narangi). This is an important step in improving connectivity between Tripura and Assam.
Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb shared the news and thanked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this new train route.
Electric Train Trial Completed
The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has also successfully completed trial runs of electric passenger trains between Agartala and Arunachal Station near Silchar, Assam.
This trial was part of a ₹46 crore electrification project started in 2022. The goal is to reduce diesel use, cut pollution, and improve train speed and reliability in the Northeast.
Passengers gave positive feedback during the trial runs of trains like the Agartala-Khongsang Jan Shatabdi Express.
Electrification Still in Progress
However, full electrification between Agartala and Guwahati is not yet complete. The section between Maibong and Chandranathpur is still under work and is expected to be finished soon, depending on weather conditions.
Future Goals
These developments support Indian Railways' goal to fully electrify its network by 2030. This will help boost eco-friendly travel and economic growth in the Northeast region of India.
