Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi to discuss Assam’s ambitious goal of achieving a ₹10 lakh crore Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) by the year 2027–2028.
During the meeting, CM Sarma highlighted the state's economic progress, which he credited to improved resource management and revenue generation strategies. He emphasized Assam’s focus on inclusive development, infrastructure growth, and industrial expansion as key drivers toward this goal.
The Finance Minister appreciated Assam’s initiatives and assured full support from the central government to help the state reach its target.
In addition, CM Sarma also met with Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to discuss the launch of the new IIM Guwahati campus.
As per current estimates, Assam’s GSDP was around ₹4.10 lakh crore in 2021–22 and is projected to reach ₹7.41 lakh crore by 2025–26, with an expected growth rate of around 16% per year.
The government plans to achieve this through strategic investments, sectoral reforms, and strong governance.
